Wikipedia, for all of its faults, defines paternalism as "the quality of being paternal, i.e. like a father, e.g. characterized by behaving in benevolent and yet intrusive manner towards underlings." People who have called themselves liberal since the late sixties, found it necessary to paternalize those who would comprise their constituents...

Not the Roach Killing Raid, but that could apply as well.. in New Castle County DE, Burger King restaurants were raided for illegal immigrants. There were so many detained one location had to alter its hours, and is not able to offer breakfast. All 7 restaurants are owned by the same franchise, seems they encourage the hiring of illegals. I’m working on the February Lady Sweater because I am ready for fall weather! I’m so tired of humidity…I just want summer to be over. Hurry up fall! Yarn is Aslan Trends Invernal, a wool/angora/nylon blend. It’s very, very sheddy. At first I was really annoyed by it, but I just love how soft it is, so I’m carrying on.

It’s been a bizarre day, answering questions about the U.S. moving ahead with approvals for irradiation on some leafy greens, and Canada moving backwards – really backwards – into political grandstanding while people suffer in an expanding listeria outbreak. The latest news is that five deaths are now being investigated and dozens of illnesses. If you watch some of the media clips you’ll see that undeserved Canadian smugness shining through – ‘we figured this listeria thing out really fast,

Interesting news from Canada about exciting developments in what seems as a very eco-friendly alternative to trees as the source of paper: wheat straw. The issue comes up following the printing of the Canadian National Geographic magazine's June issue, which was printed using 20% wheat straw.
